Always the right time.
Cabin Fever is well and truly setting in... so we're providing the perfect soundtrack to cure your claustrophobia. As a proud supporter of Support Act, this series is our platform to connect with our favourite artists and raise awareness for the artists, crew and music workers affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
With a sense of normalcy on the horizon around the globe, we thought it was just about the right time for our good pal Nicky Night Time. Since defining our musical formative years as the frontman of electro-pop outfit Van She, Nicholas Routledge has gone onto become one of arguably Australia's most in-demand songwriters with ceaseless club hits.
Recorded all the way from a sundrenched studio in Los Angeles, tune into his exclusive contribution to our Cabin Fever series via our SoundCloud now.
1) NICKY, WE'RE THINKING OF YOU OVER IN THE STATES.. HOW YOU HOLDING UP OVER THERE AND KEEN TO COME HOME YET?
Yep... always keen to be back in Australia drinking the coffee, eating the food and enjoying the clean beaches!
USA has had it tough over the past two months and although financially everyone has felt it, especially touring DJs and artists worldwide. It's been a great time to reset, reflect and adapt... which most of us don't ever really get time to do, ever!
2) HOW DOES NICKY NIGHT TIME KEEP SANE IN ISOLATION?
I've been working on a lot of music and actually recently started a project my brother Funskull called No Final Feelings... we created a 20 minute audio/visual rave experience inspired by the writings of poet Rainer Maria Riike. "Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terrror. Just keep going. No feeling is final."
3) WE'RE SAD NOCHELLA THIS YEAR MEANT WE MISSED YOUR BDAY SHENANIGANS.. HOW'D YOU END UP CELEBRATING IN ISO?
Ha, honestly I came back from Bali after playing some shows during the very early stages of the outbreak and stayed at Poolclvb's overnight before transferring to LA. He bought me the last cake at Coles and pushed it over to me with a broom (social distancing) and sang Happy Birthday... very sweet but not ideal haha.
4) NICKY BITE TIME... WHAT'S BEEN YOUR GO-TO ISOLATION SNACKS?
Moussaka, taquitos, Dan Hong's salt and pepper squid recipe, Dad Pizza (because pineapple is amazing on pizza) and have been making a vegan version of Taco Bell's crunch wrap supreme at home which is bomb!
5) THERE'S NO DOUBT THERE'LL BE A POST PANDEMIC BABY BOOM, CAN WE EXPECT ANY MORE ISO-CONCEIVED MUSICAL BABIES FROM NICKY NIGHT TIME?
There's a lot of music in the works... my partner Victoria and I made this track Own Your Isolation one night after drinking a bunch of Mezcal after dinner and I was like "Fuck it, let's just put it out..." so Danny T and Dangerous Dan who also run our MusicToDanceTo record label said sure thing.
I also have a track coming out on Chris Lake's label soon as well as a new NAATIONS EP and just finished adding music to a feature film for Daniel Askill whilst over here in lockdown... so yeah, there's a few things coming up!
6) LAST BUT NOT LEAST... WE SAW AN EPIC VAN SHE TECH REUNION LATE LAST YEAR... ANY FURTHER PLANS TO BRING THE BOYS BACK TOGETHER?
Mikey (Touch Sensitive) actually lives over here now and we've been working on a few records over the past months... so that's the plan :)
