Since the day in 2022 where we partied alongside Allan McConnel and Finn Rees of Close Counters on a balmy summer's day in Naarm/Melbourne's St Kilda, we added them to our mixtape bucket list for a contribution in due time.
If you're not acquainted with their sound already, Close Counters make music for vibrant club dance floors with an expansive catalogue of tunes covering everything from soul, house, broken beat and boogie/disco.
With two albums and numerous original releases that have been featured on BBC Radio, triple j, and iHeart Radio, Al and Finn have gained a cult following of disco descendants. Their ’23 album ‘SOULACOASTA II’ was the Best Electronic Work at Music Victoria Awards last year.
They’ve also achieved the notable honor of being included in the FIFA 23 soundtrack—the final official FIFA game—which for us is the pinnacle and peak of good music recognition.
