Welcome to the world of Feiertag.

It’s been a minute since we dropped our last mixtape and we guarantee this one is worth the wait... this time around we’re joined by Dutch drummer and producer Feiertag for a punchy selection of poolside jams to soundtrack your next shindig.

Recording and performing since 2015, Feiertag's sound can be described as electronic yet warm, and with a preference for innovative syncopated rhythms combined with fragments of instruments such as the harp and kalimba. With releases under Sonar Kollektiv, Majestic Casual, Chillhop and Boogie Angst to name a few  - it's safe to say he's not messing around.

Weeks away from the release of his highly anticipated album ’Time to Recover', we’re amped for our crew to step into the world of Joris Feiertag. Stream the mixtape live now via our SoundCloud and read the full catch up below.

As we return to some sort of normalcy on our isolated island down under, it’s easy to forget what’s happening over in your neck of the woods… how has life in lockdown been in The Netherlands and what’s the current vibe as they release their plans for a path out of lockdown?

Well, at least the weather gets a bit better now in The Netherlands. That definitely helps a lot, because, just like in the rest of the world, it has been pretty tough.

Luckily I got my studio at home, so at least I could work on finishing my debut album. But the whole nation is looking forward to everything opening up again, including me!

Between Bunraku (solo project), being a member of Kraak & Smaak and your Feiertag project, it’s safe to say you’ve got an impressive array of alter-egos when it comes to performing. Can you pick a favourite to perform as?

That's hard! Playing with Kraak & Smaak is great because we have a full band. I'm playing for 10 years with them now, so it feels like family.

With Feiertag, on the other hand, it's really intense performing mostly as a solo act; I'm playing keys, drums, pads, efx and meanwhile I'm 'entertaining' the audience. It could be a bit too much sometimes, but I love it.

Bunraku is definitely a studio project, which I don’t take to the stage (yet), and mainly immerse myself in the project when I need some rest from the Feiertag and Kraak & Smaak activities.

Bottomline: I can't choose!

On that note - what are you missing the most about performing live? ?

I miss the traveling part a whole lot. Especially with Kraak & Smaak when we play internationally. We arrive at the airport and we step into the airplane and have fun right away. I don't need to think about my daily life and just ‘enjoy the ride'. Obviously I'm missing the energy from the crowd and interacting with the audience. Let's just hope it will all be happening soon!

First thing you’ll be doing once the lockdowns are lifted?

I will probably meet up with a group of friends and go for some champagne day drinking.

Favourite album of all time?

Very difficult to answer, but I would go for 'Los Angeles' by Flying Lotus. 'Cosmogramma' would be my second choice. Every time I hear these compositions, I'm hearing new things. His sounds, his grooves, the beautiful orchestrated violins. He is a real master and 'Los Angeles' is a masterpiece.

Best emerging local act?

Weval, without a doubt. I think they are unique with their sound and programming. I love their live band set-up as well, they have really grown into a serious live act that could easily tour the world and amaze crowds.

What can we expect for the remainder of 2021 from Feiertag?

On May 28th I will release my debut album 'Time to Recover' via Jazzanova's label Sonar Kollektiv. I'm really looking forward to finally put this out into the world. I had the opportunity to work with a lot of talented friends and vocalists for this album, such as Oli Hannaford, Tessa Rose Jackson, James Alexander Bright, Pete Josef, GOSTO and Msafiri Zawose. Stay tuned!
